The Tennessee Titans released former Bucs placekicker Cairos Santos after he missed four field goals in the Buffalo game this past week in a 14-7 loss. He was replaced by former Bears kicker Cody Parkey, who had been replaced by former Gator kicker Eddy Pineiro.

Santos found a place with the Bucs during the 2018 season and solidified the kicking game. This season though, he lost out in a battle with this year’s 5th round draft choice Matt Gay. The battle between the two was a fairly close one with Gay winning out at the close of pre-season. Santos was quickly picked up by the Titans, but he finished his time in Nashville, going 4 of 9 on field goals and 12 of 12 on extra points. Santos misses were from 50, 36, and 53 yards. His last attempt of 33 yards was blocked, and it was just the last straw in a game that could have been won by Santos had he made 3 of the 4.

Being a kicker in the NFL (truly the Not For Long league for kickers) is a pretty tough situation for idiot kickers. If a quarterback has a bad day and throws three or four picks, he studies film, learns from it, and moves on. When a kicker does it, most of the time, they are shown the door. As is normal for kickers, he will probably get more shots to prove his worth when another idiot has a bad day. I wish him all the luck and fortune possible. He helped us out a lot last year in stabilizing a troubled area.
