Short pause, hold your breath for the Dynamic Duo.
Whether it’s Mayfield, Traks, or someone else, the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have two of the league’s best receivers at their disposal.
Wide receiver Mike Evans has been a blessing for the Pewter Pirates since stepping into the league in 2014. Evans has collected a consistent 1,000 yards for 9 straight seasons — not only is that an NFL record, but that is also the hallmark of a champion destined for Canton. Additionally, Evans has gripped virtually every single Buccaneers’ franchise record; yards, TDs, and receptions, and nipping at his heels is wide receiver, Chris Godwin.
Chris Godwin is the Buccaneers’ co-number one receiver and is currently in the number two spot in Bucs’ franchise history for receiving yards, receptions, and targets. He is currently paving his own way to Canton.
In 2022, the Bucs had the pleasure of having two 1,000-yard receivers, and despite Dave Canales’s offense, rumored to be a run-heavy scheme, one would still have to expect that the Dynamic Duo of Evans and Godwin would hand in another 1,000 yards apiece.
As Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans, we already know the capabilities of our primary receiving duo; however, some “national attention” is always nice — especially since Brady is gone.
Recently, Jeff Carr of CBS Sports drew up an article in which he hand-selected who he believed were the best duos on each NFL team heading into 2023, and without question, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin made an appearance on his list:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Mike Evans (WR) and Chris Godwin (WR)
The Buccaneers have one of the most reliable wide receiver duos in the game, no matter who plays quarterback for them. Evans recorded his ninth consecutive 1,000-yard season to begin his career, extending his own record for the longest streak to begin a career in NFL history (also the second-longest streak in league history). He’s third in the NFL in receiving yards (10,425) and second in receiving touchdowns (81) since 2014 (his rookie season).
Godwin is seventh in the NFL in receiving yards per game over the past four seasons (78.2), while leading the league in catch rate (74.6%). He finished with a career-high 104 catches for 1,023 yards in 2022.
Evans and Godwin were third in the NFL in combined receiving yards for a duo (2,147), recording 1,000-yard seasons in three of the past four years. Both continue to produce in Tampa Bay.
With a new-look offense powering the 2023 Buccaneers, it’s a bit of a mystery as to how well the Buccaneers will do during the season, but the consistency that the team and fans can count on is Mike Evans. Also, having Chris Godwin is, well, icing on the cake.
