What is the most essential piece of a perennial playoff team with aspirations of Super Bowl titles? Quarterback. If you don’t have one of the top-tier guys, usually you are on the outside looking in come playoff time. Fortunately, the Buccaneers have been the beneficiary of Tom Brady for the past two seasons, but now they are hitting the open market again. Can Jason Licht pull another rabbit out of his hat?
The newest rumor at One Buc Place is Russell Wilson. The Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl-inning quarterback is apparently being looked at hard by the Buccaneers. According to NFL Networks James Palmer, “The Buccaneers are doing their homework on Russell Wilson.” The asking price for Wilson is going to be astronomical, but with several glaring holes in Seattle, maybe they deal the Pro Bowl quarterback.
Wilson missed time in 2021 and still surpassed 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. The year before, he threw for over 4,000 yards and had 40 touchdowns. Wilson was able to perform like this behind a horrendous offensive line and a subpar ground game. IF the Buccaneers are able to pry him away from Seattle, Wilson could shatter passing records in Tampa. The offensive line is an upgrade, and a complimentary ground game is conducive to long-term success for Wilson.
