Fantasy Land: Allen Robinson Replaces Godwin?

2 min read

The Buccaneers could be looking at a disastrous offseason. They have several key free agents that will be courted by new teams. The biggest free agent for Tampa Bay is wide receiver, Chris Godwin. He was forced to miss most of last season after a horrible hit in the New Orleans game, tearing his ACL. Godwin would like to stay in Tampa and continue to wreak havoc on opposing defenses with Mike Evans.

The Buccaneers may need to look at another former Nittany Lion to fill the void if Godwin decides to jump ship. Allen Robinson, who may be one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL, is a free agent this year. He was part of the dismal Chicago Bears offense last year.

Robinson is only 28 years old and would offer another big-time playmaker for whoever is under center next year. During his eight-year career, Robinson has been with the Jaguars and Bears. He has gone for 1,000+ yards in three of those eight seasons (2015, 2019, 2020). He received a Pro Bowl nomination in 2015 after going for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2021, Robinson was part of the Dalton/Fields experiment. Definitely, not his fault for the lack of production. The Bears signed him to a 1-year deal worth $17 million.

Before the Buccaneers faithful blow up about how horrible Robinson is. Let’s look at 2019:

Allen Robinson: 98 catches, 1,147 yards, and 7 touchdowns

Chris Godwin: 86 catches, 1,333 yards, and 9 touchdowns

Robinson could help fill the void left by Godwin if we cannot re-sign him.
