And Then There Were 5’s

Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman | via PFF

Richard Sherman Has signed a 1-year deal worth $1.25 million with the Tampa Bay Bucs. That was something that desperately needed to happen for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; however, I noticed something.

Richard Sherman practiced with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the first time today, and he did so wearing the number 5 on his jersey. I could be reading into this, but I suspect he chose the number due to multiple reasons. The veteran cornerback was 5th round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft. He would go on to be a 5 x pro bowler and earn 5 All-Pro awards—3 First-Team and 2 Second-team. Quite the coincidence if I do say so myself. It doesn’t stop there because I also noticed that he was facing 5 misdemeanor charges back in July of this year. He also only played in 5 games last season before he was injured.

Just so I can complete my theory with a fivefecta, Sherman also has 5 forced fumbles in his career. I’m sure none of this is pertinent to the reason why he is wearing the number, and maybe he won’t even keep the number, but it’s just something I noticed and thought would be fun to share.

Regardless of any kind of possible “conspiracy” theories, I may be able to concoct, he stated that the reason why he is wearing number 5 is his number 25 was taken so he chose the number 5 because of his son Rayden who was born on Feb. 5, 2015.

Richard Sherman was brought in to help a young, depleted secondary, and Tampa will lean heavily on his expertise in developing these young players. I fully believe that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will get a lot of bang for their buck\Bucs.
