Referees Admit They Screwed Up

Joe Tryon’s debut last week against the Bengals was a highly anticipated one. He did not disappoint. The rookie showed off his strength and mechanics against the offensive line, opening up the defense to make plays. One such notable play was Tryon winning the pass rush against Bengals tackle Gunner Vogel and putting pressure on quarterback Brandon Allen, resulting in Buccaneers Safety Jovan Hagan interception the football. Hagan incidentally fumbled the interception. However, Tryon had one particular play, which became the talk of the town.
During the second quarter of play, Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen received the snap and was immediately met by the 6’5″ 265 lb former Washington Husky. Allen didn’t have a chance. The play was called for unnecessary roughness; however, the Refs, following the call, admitted that they may have screwed up.
On last night’s episode of In The Current, Tryon was mic’d up; you could hear the exchange between Tryon and the ref in which the referee states that was a good play on that roughing the passer, and Tryon admitted he didn’t mean to hit him that hard. The ref replied, “I think we may have screwed that up, alright?”
I know the Buccaneers and fans want to see more of this type of play from Joe Tryon. Hopefully, with fewer bad calls coming behind it.
