Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians thought Wednesday’s practice was really good considering that they could practice against another team instead of themselves. However, he was none too pleased with the way his wide receivers performed; nor how his veteran quarterback looked on the field on Wednesday.

“Really, really good practices. You can’t get anything better than going against another team, putting in all the situations, looking at young players, veteran players. No better team to do it against than Mike [Vrabel] and the Titans. I thought it was outstanding work. We’ll grade the tape as far as who did what and who didn’t, and I know one thing — we dropped way too many damn passes. We have to stop that.”

The question asked if the Titans were a good team to practice with, Bruce Arians sang their praises.

“It’s a heck of a football team — good quarterback — obviously the runner, the receivers, offensive line, but they’ve got a hell of a defense. Mike [Vrabel] is obviously a hell of a defensive coach. All the respect in the world for their whole organization.”

“They’re looking very physical, and that’s what we wanted in these practices — good, physical, tough practices, working great technique and scheme-wise. I think we accomplished that today.”

Despite accomplishing the goal of working in technique and scheme and getting the results that are pleasing, Bruce Arians was not at all happy with the young receivers. Drops plagued Buccaneers receivers during Wednesday scrimmage, and the Buccaneers head coach said there is no excuse for that:

“They dropped it. Catch it. Shit, ain’t no excuse — they’re perfectly thrown balls — you catch the damn thing.”

Bruce Arians cut the young guys zero slack, but it seems that if the veteran guys had dropped some passes that he wouldn’t be as upset. When asked if the drops were concerning, he admitted that coming from the younger guys was very concerning.

“If it’s Mike or Chris or ‘Gronk’, no. But if it’s young players, yes. Maybe the lights are too big. We’ll go back and evaluate it but way too many drops.”

Tom Brady’s play also did not please Arians. Brady was not sharp and wowed no one.

“I didn’t think he was very sharp. Our third-down percentage, I think was really poor in that one. We took some shots downfield on first down. Guys were open. He made some really good throws that were dropped, too. We’ll grade the tape, but I didn’t come off the field saying he wowed everybody.”

There is no reason to panic as the Buccaneers move into the final two preseason games as the team will have things hashed out mechanically. However, if the dropsies continue, some guys will be looking for a new job prior to September the 9th rolling around.
