Lavonte David Comes in at #2 in ESPN Top 10 Linebacker Ranking

2 min read

Lavonte David is well known by Bucs fans but is often overlooked by everyone else, and easily considered to be the most underrated linebacker in the NFL for many years; however, the voters refused to underrate him as seen in Jeremey Folwers’ latest exclusive content on ESPN+.

According to Fowler, “David landed at the No. 2 spot without flash but with ultimate respect. All but one voter kept him inside the top six.”

It seems that the older Lavonte David gets, the better he becomes, with barely any end in sight, I am certain that he will solidify his amazing career with consistent eye-opening performances on his way to the Hall of Fame Bust at the finish line.

David ranked above a sold list of Linebackers: Eric Kendricks, Darius Leonard, and Demario Davis. Bobby Wagner of the Seattle Seahawks came in at #1,

Having been to just one Pro Bowl since coming into the league in 2012 seems like a slap in the face to David and Buc fans. He also quietly earned only one First-Team All-Pro honors in 2013, a Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2016, and a spot on NFL’s All-Decade Team in 2019. Still, he should have received a lot more, in my opinion, and many other’s opinions as well.

The Buccaneers haven’t been exactly a top tier team in the NFL market since David was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and could play a major role in why he has had such a lack of recognition by the league. With Tom Brady now the Buccaneers’ quarterback, it should shed new light on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and those who have been in Bucs’ Nation spotlight may now be seen on the center stage around the league.

Is it time for David to shine? No. It’s time for everyone to see his brilliance.

Lavonte David has played in 121 games in 8 seasons, recording 11 interceptions for 174 yards on the return and 2 touchdowns, with 45 passes defended, 21 forced fumbles, 14 fumbles recovered and one returned for a touchdown, 22.5 sacks, 1008 combined tackles – 116 for a loss, and 52 hits on the quarterback. PFF gives David a grade of 89.2 for the 2019, and that is the best overall for any linebacker. Shine on LVD54!
