If The Bucs Go Defense at #5

2 min read

The 2019 NFL Draft is just over a week away! All of the mock drafts, speculation and drama is going to be coming to an end very soon. I’m excited for the draft!

I’m sure that the Bucs front office have already nailed down a very short list of players that they’re going to choose from when it comes to making their first round selection. Will the Bucs trade back or stay at five? We don’t know yet, but one thing is for sure, is that the Bucs are going defense with their first round pick.

Who will the Bucs take? That answer is still up in the air. It depends on who is still available when it comes time for Tampa Bay to make their selection. It seems to be down to either defensive line or linebacker. There are several player’s names that have been linked to Tampa Bay. They are Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, Ed Oliver, Devin White, Devin Bush, Rashan Gary, Brian Burns, and Montez Sweat.

Just what will the Bucs defense look like with each scenario? Relatively the same. There will be a few different techniques that the Bucs will choose to emphasize but for the most part, whoever they choose will he part of a much more aggressive and attacking style of defense. As stated many times previously, Todd Bowles is going to be implementing a 3-4 hybrid style defense.

The Bucs two biggest areas of need are the pass rush and the secondary, but the Bucs front office will be focusing on the secondary in the rounds to follow.

Based on recent news regarding Gerald McCoy, he’s most likely gone and even though Tampa Bay drafted Vita Vea in the first round in 2018, McCoy will leave big shoes to fill on the defensive line. I’m leaning towards defensive line being the first thing that the Jason Licht and company decide to address first. We’ll know soon enough. I’m ready to start the season! Go Bucs!
