Jameis Winston Had A Lot to Say

Jameis Winston addressed the media on April 9th and had quite a bit to say.
Winston addressed the atmosphere around One Buc and said that he was excited to be back and ready to begin preparing for the upcoming season.
“Just excited to be back. It’s a new start. A new start to get better and a new start to get your ducks in a row and get ready to prepare to be a great football team.”
Jameis Winston always seems to be that guy who is excited to be back at work and is always ready to go. Like a kid in a candy store, his excitement knows no bounds.
Winston loves his receivers and knows that they are all ready to go out and compete.
“It starts with Mike. Mike is still going to be the best receiver in the league. And guys like Chris Godwin definitely going to get more touches. One thing we did do was spread the ball around a lot, so everybody got a great amount of touches. Other guys are going to step up in that room; Bobo Wilson, Breshad Perriman, just got him. But people forget that we’ve got two of the best tight ends with the league, too. O.J. and Cam, they are going to continue to be big-time matchups for us. Obviously, I miss ‘Hump’, and I’m definitely going to miss ‘D-Jack’ stretching the field, but at the end of the day they did a great job getting a move for them. Now we’ve got to continue to move forward.”
In addition, Winston addresses the new opportunity afforded wide receiver Chris Godwin and his belief on whether or not Godwin is prepared to take on a bigger role next year.
“Beyond equipped. He was one of our best receivers last year. He’s ready. He’s been ready.”
Chris Godwin was targeted 59 times for 842 yards and 7 touchdowns last season and with Godwin afforded a much bigger role in 2019, he should see a massive increase in production.
Winston also addressed O.J. Howard and what to expect from him throughout the 2019 NFL season. Winston believes that his limit reaches beyond the sky for the former 19th pick overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
“The sky’s the limit, really. Not even the sky, probably the moon. Why limit him there? This guy is incredible, but I think he and Cam really complement each other well. I think O.J. can learn a lot of things from Cam, but I believe having both of those guys is going to make our offense go to the top. You can’t really stop O.J. doing anything. He’s going to blow you off the ball with blocking, and he’s going to run past you and stiff-arm you. I know he’s going to have a great season, and Lord-willing, he’s going to stay healthy and make it to the Pro Bowl like he was before he got injured.”
In wrapping up, Winston addressed the new offensive system and how it will not set the team back in any way. He mentioned that the team is not rebuilding, and should remain in the top 10 for offense in 2019.
“We’re just implementing a new system, and it’s time to keep rolling. You look at the years, our offense has been producing here and there. We’ve always been in the top 10 so now he’s just getting these weapons, and he’s using them the way that he wants to use them and we’re excited. Like I said, it’s not about rebuilding. We’re about to go out there and make some noise.”
It sounds like Winston is ready to get to work, as always, and if this new coaching staff can correct the issues that plagued the team last year, then we should be in for a real treat.
