Bucs Defense limps into Detroit

Losing Winfield takes some wind out of the Sails.

Among the M.AS.H. unit for the defense is LB- K.J. Britt (illness, *LP), DL- W. Gholston (elbow, LP), DL- Calijah Kancey (calf, *DNP), DL- Logan Hall (foot. LP), S- A. Winfield (foot, DNP), CB- Zyon McCollum (concussion, LP), DB- Josh Hayes (ankle, DNP), and Offensive Right Tackle Luke Goedeke (concussion, LP). A few are Limited Participation, so conceivably, those players have a bit of a chance to suit up.  Or, every single one of them could be out. I wouldn’t look for any of the DNPs to play. Kancey didn’t play in the Washington game and will surely miss the Detroit rematch from the playoffs last season. It’s worth noting that when Kancey is healthy and is able to get in there with Vea, he’s a force on the line. So far, his injuries have played a part in his young career. When he is healthy, he’s the real deal. Obviously, the loss of Winfield is a pretty hard blow. No other Buccaneer covers as much of the field as he does, making plays in the defensive backfield as well as in the opponent’s backfield on the quarterback.

Goedeke probably will not play.

Losing right tackle Goedeke will surely make Mayfield’s day more interesting. Hopefully, he will have new shoes on because most people feel faster when they run in new, good-fitting, athletic shoes. Am I wrong about that? I always felt swifter in new tennis shoes when I was young — Glory days. You catch my drift. Mayfield will surely be scrambling around a bit more with the young Goedeke sidelined. I felt as if the Bucs stood a decent chance of beating Detroit at full strength. As it stands, it’s going to take an enormous effort, with some things falling our way, to pull a W out of the Motor City. I look for the Bucs to make a game out of it and keep up on the scoreboard until after half, eventually succumbing to the talent level of the Lions late (Lions by 13-16). Here’s a tidbit to ponder. Carlton Davis is listed on the Lions Injury Report and probably won’t get the chance to get burned by his former team’s Receivers. Shame. Everybody take a marker, write the number 44 on a sheet of paper, place it under your pillow, and have sweet dreams. Maybe, in some way, it will help Sean Tucker get a few carries in the game. Bucky looked great and will continue to. 4.33 speed can make defenders look stupid. It would be fun to watch for all of us Bucs Fans. Go Bucs!!
