Could Tom Brady finally hang up his cleats and call it a career at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 NFL season? Brady is currently playing on a one-year contract, the one he signed in order to restructure his deal to create more cap space for the team, so he becomes a free agent next season.
Tom Brady is currently 44 years old. He will turn 45 on August 3rd. Brady has always said, “I’ve always said 45 was the age that I wanted to reach, and that was my goal.”
In an article from The Sporting News, called “Why 2022 could be Tom Brady’s last season in the NFL: Appetite to compete’ will ‘be gone soon written by Kevin Skiver, Skiver tells us that in an interview with Dan Patrick, Brady was uncharacteristically chatty about his mentality as a competitor and what will get him to finally hang up the cleats for good. Brady responded by saying I had the appetite to compete, and it’s going to be gone soon,” he told Patrick. “I mean, there’s no doubt about it. I’ve got to just really appreciate the time I have left because it’s not a lot.”
Brady also talked with Patrick about his upcoming analyst role with Fox. He signed a 10-year deal worth $375 million with the network.”
However, he did mention to Robert Lundberg that he would play as long as he could commit to playing. He also noted that the Bucs do get to wear their creamsicle jerseys next in 2023. He recently made a Tweet asking fans to retweet if they should wear those uniforms. How could the GOAT not want to wear those? It sure sounds like he wants to.
“How long could I play? Hypothetically, because I love hypothetical questions, I could play as long as I’m willing to make the commitment to playing,” Brady said. “I don’t think it’s gonna be another five years I’ll say that.”
Robert Lundberg: Will we be seeing you in the creamsicle uniforms?
Tom Brady: Mmmmmm… never say never. I don’t know. It’s a good question. I’m going to take it year-by-year for sure on this. I know we are not wearing them this year, but we are wearing them the year after this [2023]. So, we’ll see. We’ll see. – via Joe Bucs Fan
He said, “We. are wearing them next year.” So maybe the GOAT plans on staying after all?
While there is no definitive answer to the question at this time, it seems that the lure of the game could be too much for Tom Brady to ignore, and he might just squeak out one more season. I don’t think anyone would mind that at all. Right now, the only thing that is for sure is this season, and that is what the GOAT has on his mind.
