Zyon McCollum on Possibility of Playing Right Away
1 min read
With the 157th pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected CB Zyon McCollum out of Sam Houston State. According to the Relative Athletic Score (RAS), McCollum is the most athletic cornerback ever to be graded since they started grading back in 1987. McCollum scored a perfect 10/10 on the RAS, which has never been done before for cornerbacks. Below is what McCollum had to say about possibly playing right away.
“Just being on this field, the coaches see something in you. [They] see something in me. So, I expect, and I know, that I can play in terms of my caliber of talent and athleticism. So right now, it’s just getting comfortable with everything and everyone and just trying to get everybody to trust me. Once these players and these coaches trust me, then I’ll be able to play at a high level.”
Zyon McCollum is going to be an interesting player to watch for the Buccaneers this season. His speed and agility is another element added to an already solid cornerback room with Carlton Davis III, Sean Murphy-Bunting, and Jamel Dean. For the Buccaneers to trade up in the draft and select McCollum, it would appear that the team really liked what they saw and grabbed a prospect with a lot of promise at one of the most important positions in football.
