There is a rumor that has been going around for about a month that Buccaneers free-agent center Ryan Jensen was offered a contract of 3-years and $39 million by the Cincinnati Bengals. This rumor begins when Pro Football Focus tweeted the Bengals as a predicted landing spot for the veteran center, then Pac-Man Jones was going around saying that a little birdy had told him that the Bengals are, in fact, talking to Jensen and offering him a pretty decent contract. I happen to know that they have not.
Throwing the tampering factor right out of the window, I asked if this were true, and behind the scenes, I got a straight answer: Pac-Man must have been hit a little too hard if he’s still seeing little birdies. Now mind you, if I were told that the rumor is true and they have reached out and made the offer, I would not be writing this as that is tampering, but considering it is not true, I figured you all should know. Now keep in mind that that kind of offer is a good one, and Ryan Jensen probably would not mind it at all, but he would prefer to be a Buc, but just because Tampa is a preferred destination doesn’t mean he will be low-balled; 3-years and $39 million are not too far out of the picture.
It’s the offseason and rumors are aplenty. Have fun, just don’t fall for the banana in the tailpipe. It is going to be interesting to see what transpires once legal tampering is upon us around March 14th.
