As the long shadows stretch across Advent Training Centre, a giant catches imaginary passes as he runs through the routes of the playbook. Occasionally, he glances back to where his buddy used to throw real passes. Some say, on a particularly clear day and if the wind is blowing in the right direction, you can hear the giant whisper between sobs; “Tommy to Gronky for the tuddie”.
Ok, I’m making that first but up for dramatic effect. But, one thing true about this is that TE Rob Gronkowski is indeed a daily visitor to the Buccaneers training facility. Gronk is a veteran of the NFL and knows that a day off is a day for the other guy to catch up. It shouldn’t be any surprise to Buccaneers or Gronk fans. Over a spectacular career, Gronkowski has been an athletic phenomenon.
The time dedicated in the gym, on the field, and in the film room have allowed the four-time Super Bowl champion to be one of the elite Tight Ends in the NFL, and the dedication that Gronk is still showing suggests that he’s not ready to call it quits just yet.
Many fans might even hope that Gronky and Tommy reunite for a farewell tour, but more important issues need to be addressed. One of those issues is the re-signing of wideout Chris Godwin. The Buccaneers have the option to use the franchise tag again, but that is the option least desired by both parties.
With the combine signaling the rumblings of the new NFL year, this is going to be a fascinating off-season to watch.
