After an incredible week two performance against the Atlanta Falcons, Buccaneers S Mike Edwards has been named the week two NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
With the Buccaneers holding a lead of 35-25 midway through the fourth quarter, Edwards jumped a route and ran 31 yards for a pick six to boost the lead to 41-25 with 7:53 remaining in the game. Two drives later, Edwards once again picked off Matt Ryan and ran 15 yards to the end zone for another pick six ultimately sealing the deal for a 48-25 Buccaneer victory moving the team to 2-0 on the season.
Overall, Mike Edwards had four tackles, two interceptions, and two touchdowns on the day. This is the first time in 2021 that a Buccaneer defender won this honor and the first time in Edwards’ career that he has been honored with a player of the week award. Edwards joins Bradley Pinion as the second Buccaneer to win a weekly award in the first two weeks of the season.
