Not much is known about who exactly Buccaneers’ long snapper Carson Tinker is, but longtime Crimson Tide and Jacksonville Jaguars fans do. Tinker started his NFL career in 2013, coming out of Alabama State as the highest-ranked long snapper coming into the league.

He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent and ultimately won the starting job. He appeared in all 16 games that 2013 season and kept the starting job until tearing his ACL during the Jags 2017 training camp and was placed on IR, missing the season. He came back healthy in 2018 and appeared in the first 5 games of the season before suffering a knee injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Carson Tinker became a cap casualty at the beginning of the 2019 season. He did not make a starting roster again until signing with the Buccaneers despite being on multiple team’s Practice Squads.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Carson Tinker following the release of Guard Earl Watford from IR. Tinker, who has not started since 2018, is quite thankful for the opportunity to play for the Buccaneers.

“It’s amazing,” Tinker told the media on Thursday. ” God’s plan is unbelievable. To come back here – I’ve been working hard the past few years, just waiting on a call. I was with the Giants last year on the practice squad. That was great for me, a great opportunity. To finally get that call is really cool, but at the same time, I know I have to keep working and keep continuing to get better. I’m just excited for the opportunity.”

The veteran Long Snapper, who is visibly moved by this opportunity, also knows the importance of being on the same page with Tampa’s placekicker Ryan Succop, especially since Sunday, September 19th, will be his first appearance in a regular-season game in three years.

“It’s huge, but at the same time, my job is to be seamless and be invisible. I was talking to [Ryan] Succop, and we had a great period today.” Tinker said to the media, “I told him my job is just for you to be [feeling] like you’re kicking on the sticks out there.” He continued, “You’re not supposed to even know that I’m there. It’s really big to get with Bradley [Pinion] and to get with Ryan, but also the other core guys on special teams. And with Keith [Armstrong] – we’ve [spent] a lot of time meeting on the field working different looks, but also in the film room breaking down seeing what I’m thinking and what they’re thinking, and who has who. Like I said, it’s been great to get back into it and get back in with all the guys, but also, picking their brain and letting them pick my brain just to get all on the same page.”

He was asked about the energy around the Buccaneers facility, and he stated that there is a different energy in Tampa but has mainly been focused on doing his job.

“Again, I’m really just kind of focused on long snapping and doing my job. I haven’t quite peeked around and seen everybody else, but it is hard not to look around and look at some of the names in the locker room. I would say there is a different energy here. People are about coming to work, getting better, and winning football games. It’s great to be a part of, and again, I’m just excited for the opportunity to be here.”
