Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker/ defensive end Keith McCants was found dead on Thursday morning in his St. Pete home. According to the Sheriff’s spokesperson, it appears the cause of death was a drug overdose. He has had a history of drug use and drug-related arrests.
Those who knew the man knew his heart. Keith McCants may have rubbed some people the wrong way, but he was a very loving guy and cared about those around him.
Keith McCants was drafted in the first round, 4th overall, in the 1990 NFL Draft. He played for three seasons with the Buccaneers before signing with the Oilers in 1993 and then switched back and forth between the Oilers and Cardinals until he retired in 1995.
He had ups in downs in life, dealing with depression, living on the streets, abusing drugs, multiple divorces, and even attempting suicide. Our prayers are with his family and friends.
