In 2021, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not pick in the top 20 of the NFL Draft for the first time since Mike Evans was selected in 2014. The Buccaneers had the 32nd pick overall and selected linebacker Joe Tryon. Yes, another linebacker, but that’s a topic that has been beaten to death since he was drafted on the evening of April 27th. So how is the former Huskies linebacker getting along after not seeing the football field since opting out of 2020 due to Covid-19? According to Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians, “He’s carving out a real, real nice role for himself.”

Recently Bruce Arians was asked if Joe Tryon was meeting expectations, and it looks like he is doing more than meeting them.

“Oh, more than. He hasn’t been in pads in, what, two years? He’s whipping a lot of guys’ asses. That says a lot about him. He’s carving out a real, real nice role for himself.”

Whipping a lot of guys’ asses is exactly the type of thing you want to hear. Tryon had a knee scope before camp started so it was at first expected that he would miss a little time. Missing rookie camp isn’t something a rookie wants to do, but it seems it did not bother Tryon one bit. It seems the rookie linebacker is giving the offensive lineman hell. Arians was asked about the rookie’s repertoire of pass rush moves Arians replied,

“You should probably ask Tristan and Donovan because he’s kicking their ass pretty good sometimes. I don’t think he needs any more moves, that’s for sure. Maybe a little more strength, but he’s got plenty of that, too.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have struck gold once in the first round and seemingly stocked up for the team’s future. What an exciting time to be a Bucs Fan?

Joe Tryon has played in 23 games in his short college stint, recording 61 total tackles (37 solo and 24 assisted), 9 sacks, and 2 passes defended. Not bad for a guy, who only played in 23 games.
