The Super Bowl Champs are putting pads on today (Saturday, 7/31) for the first time since February. Today’s practice is a good sign that Buccaneers football is right around the corner, but Friday’s practice was anything but a good sign.
When asked by media how practice went on Friday, Arians did not hold back:
“I’m really not pleased. I thought we were really, really sluggish. We talked about it before we left and took the day off. We came out – I don’t know if our receivers caught a pass. Same thing defensively – we didn’t stop anything over third-and-nine. It was just a horses–t practice. Hopefully we’ll get better in pads tomorrow.”
Arians continued to say he was displeased with the entire practice as guys were just walking around and not carrying themselves according to Buccaneer standards. He believed that the training camp struggles were behind them, but following yesterday’s sluggish practice, he isn’t so sure. What he is sure of: the players are handling the heat in Tampa Bay much better.
As they put the pads on today, the Buccaneers head coach hopes that the players do better and steer the team back to Super Bowl Champion caliber and give it their all.
I am not personally worried about it; in fact, I am sure things will heat up when the hitting begins today.
