After the bye week, Bucs came together.
When you really step back and think about it, this team has only just come together. Remember, it wasn’t until the bye week last season (week #13) that the team really turned a corner and began to really come together. Including postseason games, we’re talking about 8 games here, half a season — A season with no OTA’s, no mini or regular camps, and no preseason games. Oh sure, Brady got some of the guys together to throw a nerf ball around in the backyard, basically, but it was more of a meet and greet —Working on timing, a bit, and getting a bit of a feel for each other. One could easily assume that it barely even really mattered come game time week #1 2020.
This season, not only do you have the players continuing their playing as a team together, getting better and even more cohesive, you have the natural maturation of players: Devin White, Jamel Dean, Murphy-Bunting, Antoine Winfield II, Ronald Jones II, and Anthony Nelson, among others. The Defense, come playoff time last season, was very strong. They were smothering some pretty good offenses. It’s reasonable to assume that the defense will be even better this season, barring any major injuries. How could it not be with a healthy Vita Vea anchoring the D-Line? Even though Vea was able to play late in the run last season, he certainly wasn’t one hundred percent, or at midseason form.
Defending the title has a different feel this time around.
Injuries are really the only thing that can derail this team from being much better than last season’s home team Super Bowl Champion. There truly is a different feel entering the Bucs second chance at defending a Championship. Having the entire starting lineups for both units back is one aspect that’s different. Another aspect that’s different is the Brady Factor. Brad Johnson was an adequate quarterback for the Bucs back then, but let’s face it, he’s not ever going to be compared to the G.O.A.T. — Apples and oranges, really.
So strap yourselves in Bucs’ Fans this season is going to be a wild ride. A ride that could see our Bucs become scary good. Let’s hope so! Go Bucs!!
