Mahomes is Not Taking Vita Vea Lightly

On Sunday night, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be taking on the defending world champion Kansas City Chiefs. Last year’s Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, is showing a lot of respect to the Buccaneers defense. Mahomes admitted that he is worried about his offensive line matching up with Vea on Sunday night.

“He’s a guy that you’ve got to know where he’s at every single play,” Mahomes said Wednesday, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “He obviously is super disruptive in the run game, but he’s just as good as a pass rusher. You don’t see guys like that — playing that position, that can rush the passer like that — that much. For him, he’s a special talent, and I’ll have to know where he’s at every single play in order to not let him disrupt the entire game.”

Vea returned to the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers after missing 15 weeks in the 2020 season. Mahomes should not just be concerned about Vea on the defensive line, after all, the Bucs also have Ndamukong Suh and the very underrated William Gholston. The Buccaneers are very talented at the linebacker position with Devin White, Jason Pierre-Paul, Lavonte David, and Shaq Barrett. Let’s see how all these guys matchup against Travis Kelce on Sunday Night. It should be one for the ages.

Patrick Mahomes has many weapons, but the way the Buccaneers defense has played, especially in the playoffs, can shut down the Chiefs’ offense. Tampa Bay’s secondary is very young and is capable of contributing, and they did against the Packers, especially Sean Murphy-Bunting. I am looking forward to seeing Tampa Bay’s secondary matchup with the Chiefs’ talented receivers such as Demarcus Robinson and Tyreek Hill; I wonder how Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean will match up with these two? It will be interesting to see.

This is a game that I can tell that all of these players have looked forward to their entire lives. We are all looking forward for the outcome, but hopefully, it’s a Bucs victory. I do not doubt that the Buccaneers defense will show up ready, and take care of business and keep the Lombardi Trophy in Tampa.
