2020 has been all but normal, to say the least; for Bucs fans, 2020 has been a little crazy.
With sports slowly up making their comeback and the NFL Training Camp only a month away, we’re going to take a look at two Bucs players who have a lot to prove this season, and you’ll see why I’m saying it’s Tom Brady and Shaq Barrett. Sure, there are also guys like Justin Evans, OJ Howard, and/or Ronald Jones Jr who could easily replace either of them, but when you’re the G.O.A.T. and the Bucs 2019 Sack Master, here’s why they’re at the very top.
Tom Brady: Only during a pandemic, can the Tampa Bay Buccaneers land a quarterback with a Hall of Fame resume that includes six Super Bowl titles, four-time Super Bowl MVPs, three league MVPs, and fourteen Pro Bowls. In his first 20 seasons, Tom Brady has thrown for 74,571 yards, 541 TDs, and 179 interceptions.
The Bucs definitely went “All-In” when they guaranteed Brady all $50-million of his contract and giving him an opportunity to earn an additional $9-million in incentives. And to sweeten the deal, even more, the Bucs even found a way to trade for Rob Gronkowski after he came out of his 18-month retirement, reuniting the duo that brought home 3 of the Patriots 6 Super Bowls.
So how is he on the list if he’s so great? It’s simple; two decades of the “Patriot Way”, winning games, championships, etc, Brady is set out to prove that he can indeed win Super Bowls without Bill Belichick.
Not since Randy Moss has Brady had two receivers that were Top-5 talent. For the first time in his career, not only will Brady be in a new uniform, he’ll be leading one of the league scariest offenses with guys like Evans, Godwin, Gronk, Brate, Howard catching passes.
Shaquil Barrett: This one should be easy to see why Shaquil Barrett was my choice whether he signs the tag or strikes a long-term deal. Barrett will have undoubtedly be playing with a chip on his should in 2020 to prove that he is indeed a fitting piece into their defensive puzzle.
After recording a career-high and franchise-record 19.5 sacks, many are wondering if 2019 was a fluke, or did the Bucs really strike gold when they signed the Barrett? (who spent his first five seasons backing up and learning from Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware, winning Super Bowl 50) If he can produce, he’ll definitely go down as one of the best free-agency steals in team history.
*As of this moment, the 2019 NFL sack leader and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ sack master has yet to sign his franchise tag, and as of Monday, he stated that he “intends to sign” if both parties can’t agree to an extension by the July 15th deadline*
