“Mike Evans a household name”
The Bucs have gotten a lot of hype this offseason, which in retrospect, isn’t anything new for Buccaneers fans. The talent pool for the Buccaneers has been deep for a long time – that is especially true at the wide receiver position. Mike Evans has almost been a household name across the NFL since he entered into the league and rightfully so. The stud WR now holds a franchise record and just last year broke the record for the youngest receiver to eclipse 7,000 yards in front of the former record holder, Larry Fitzgerald, at the Buccaneers and Cardinals game last year. Mike finished the season with 67 catches for 1,157 yards before a hamstring injury ended his year early.
“Godwin became a force to be reckoned with”
With the emergence of the 2017 3rd round draft pick, Chris Godwin, it only added to the lethality of Evans with his reliable hands and strong body. Coming off of a career year last year catching the ball 86 times for 1,333 yards, also before blowing a hamstring, Godwin became a force to be reckoned with on his own. He has shown flashes of greatness since he climbed his way to the WR2 spot in the 2017 season, easily stepping over DeSean Jackson.
“#1 WR Duo in the NFL, coming into the year”
So now they’re both back healthy together, and with the signing of Tom Brady as a seasoned veteran with a winning pedigree, it should only strengthen them coming into the 2020 season. This fact wasn’t lost on Brad Gagon of Bleacher Report, who ranked the powerful receivers the #1 WR Duo in the NFL, coming into the year.
The respect given has been long overdue for years now, but it’s nice to see them finally get real recognition for their work. Hopefully, this year they can live up to the hype.
