Jason Pierre-Paul: All I did Was Try My Best

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some coin in the bank to play with this season, or do they? The Bucs have a lot of free agents this year and a lot of questions regarding a lot of positions. With 24 free agents and some high dollar ones at that hitting free agency like Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul, Jameis Winston, Shaquil Barrett and lower-priced ones such as Breshad Perriman, Kevin Minter, Ryan Smith, Carl Nassib, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Beau Allen, Antony Auclair, and Tanner Hudson what are the Bucs to do? With extensions coming for Godwin and LVD, that $84,989,175 is going to go fast!

The two biggest questions will be the quarterback position and the defense.

Jameis Winston is a free agent, and Tampa is going to do whatever it takes to find new quarterback — whether that means through the draft, free agency, or bring back their 2015 first overall selection. Either way, it is going to cost the Bucs a sizable chunk of money.

Then you have the Buccaneers fierce defensive line.

Suh isn’t likely to play for $9 million this year, and JPP is going to want more than the $3 million he was paid last season. On top of that, there is Shaq Barrett, who played last season for $5 million and certainly proved that we got a heck of a deal. Despite Barrett saying he wants to stay in Tampa and would take a little less money, there is no way he will play anywhere near that $5million he got last season. Some think his value not only shot through the roof but will end up being another large portion removed from the Buccaneers’ coin purse. I won’t even get into the offensive line needs that we have to address.

Do the Buccaneers, who would love to keep that defensive front have the money to sign a new quarterback or our old one, free agents, and draft picks? Not hardly, and a couple of our better players are not going to be dressing out in Bucs gear this season.

Recently, Jason Pierre-Paul posted an image on Instagram and made the comment, “All I did was try my best.” Now, I know that it is that time of the season, but we have seen cryptic posts from players before and it ended up with the player not being here for the following season. Is this another post giving us a glimpse of what may happen? We can read too much into player posts sometimes, especially when it is the offseason, but here is the most recent one from Jason Pierre-Paul:

Now, this may be a reach, but it sure does look like Pierre-Paul is commenting on his situation with the team. And although, JPP did tell our beat guy, Johnny Bowers that if Tampa wants him back, “Hell yeah, I’ll be here!”, it may not be as simple as do the Bucs want him back, as it is more likely that Tampa may just not be able to afford for him to return.
