Shaq Barrett certainly earned himself some extra coin with last season’s performance. 19.5 sacks, leading the league and setting a Buccaneer franchise-record will do that. Fans have stressed that we must keep Barrett no matter what it costs. But would Tampa back the Brinks truck up to his front door for one season of high performance? Possibly.
Barrett expressed his want to stay in Tampa multiple times towards the end of the season, and head coach Bruce Arians had said that he wants him to stay put as well. Why not? He fit Todd Bowles’s scheme perfectly. But the tape is out on Barrett, so there is that to consider as well. Will he continue a similar performance in 20201? There are so many questions heading into this offseason. But one thing we can be certain of is that Barrett is a free agent that many folks will want to kick the tires on.
Barrett recently joined the Mad Dog sports radio program on SiriusXM and said that even from a young age, he always hated moving. Shaq Barrett preferred staying home in Nebraska, and that is why he decided to play for a smaller school program at Nebraska-Omaha instead of taking a full Divison I scholarship to North Dakota. The sack master also made the statement that if other teams offer him more than the Buccaneers that he would look at what their taxes are compared to Tampa’s because he doesn’t want to move somewhere and get “taxed crazy.” Shaq said he would take less money to stay in Tampa, but not a drastically reduced amount, but he will do what he thinks is best for his career, and of course, his family.
