Riddle’s Rundown: Bucs Should Persue DL Jordan Phillips

Last season the Bucs defensive line performed far better than most expected and ended up the best against the run in the entire league. Ndamukong Suh was part of that defensive front 7 after signing a one year contract with the Bucs this past offseason. Although he did play well, his age is definitely beginning to show as he has been virtually ineffective as a pass rusher with just 2.5 sacks on the season, which is the lowest output of his career. It was his third-worst output as far as tackles in his career as well.

Now Suh is a free agent, and there has been no talk of resigning him as of yet, so what are some other options if Suh does move on? I say Buffalo Bill’s DL Jordan Phillips would be a huge upgrade along the defensive line. Last season he put out the best season of his career, by far, with 9.5 sacks, 31 tackles, 13 TFL, 16 QB hits, after playing in 16 games with 9 starts. Phillips was a beast, last year, plain and simple. At 6’6″ and 341 pounds, he is a big D Lineman that is very versatile and can play anywhere along the line, and he’s shown that he can be more than just a run stuffer. He can rush the passer and do it very effectively, as is evident from his 9.5 sacks.

The Bucs would be stupid not to inquire against Phillips as he is only 27 and a huge improvement over Suh, who may, just be on his way out of Tampa, so the Bucs will need to look for a replacement.
