Shaq Barrett and Chris Godwin Receive AP Honors – Lavonte David Snubbed

Despite Shaquil Barrett having an outstanding 2019 performance, breaking sacks records, and such, T.J. Watt‘s and Chandler Jones‘ performances are the reason why they have been voted ahead of our SACK MONSTER and listed as First-Team All-Pro by Associated Press. But it’s still a popularity contest. However, if you are curious as to what the results of the voting were: Chandler Jones: 32 votes; T.J. Watt: 22 votes; Shaquil Barrett: 18 votes’ Cameron Jordan: 12 votes. As you can see, Barrett just missed the First Team by four votes.

Second-Team All-Pro is still an honor and something we all should be proud of despite it being mostly a popularity contest.

Chris Godwin didn’t even finish the season, missing two games with an injury, yet made it to the Second Team with veteran receiver Julio Jones, and is the first Buccaneer wide receiver to earn an AP All-Pro honor. The voting results were much the same as with Barrett missing the First-Team by just four votes. The landslide vote for Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints is not surprising. Here are the voting results: Michael Thomas: 50 votes; DeAndre Hopkins, 18 votes; Julio Jones: 16 votes; Chris Godwin: 14 Votes’ Kenny Golladay: 1 vote. I think DeAndre Hopkins over Godwin for First-Team is a snub, and I am not being biased one bit.

This is the first time since any Buccaneers player has received All-Pro Honors since 2016: Mike Evans, Gerald McCoy, and Lavonte David.

Speaking of snubbed; when the list came out fans immediately cried snub for Lavonte David not making either team. As much as I love Lavonte David and think he is one of the greats and certainly the best on our team when it comes to linebackers, he plays for Tampa. David is mostly unrecognized by those who are outside of Tampa Bay, and for that reason, he doesn’t get the respect that he most certainly deserves. Not only was he snubbed for the Second-Team All-Pro, I think he was snubbed for First-Team. I am not being biased one bit. Okay, maybe a little. The fact that most “voted” honors are a popularity contest, the fact that you are playing for Tampa will have you overlooked unless you lead the league in something. Curious about the voting results? Here ya go: Bobby Wagner: 32 votes; Demario Davis: 18 votes; Eric Kendrick: 18 votes; Luke Kuechly: 17 votes; Darius Leonard: 11 votes; T.J. Watt: 11 votes; Lavonte David: 10 votes; Fred Warner: 6 votes.

Another thing that angers me is the fact that Vita Vea, while being one of the only four to receive a vote in this, only got one.
