Devin White is everything the Buccaneers wanted but was not the pick most Bucs fans were looking for at #5. White started the season out slowly, but boy, when he took off, HE TOOK OFF in a hurry.
Starting in 13 games, White recorded three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries for 121 yards and two touchdowns, snagged one pass out of the air, sacked the QB 2.5 times, and 91 total tackles.
Now, I will admit that I was one of those that wanted the other Devin, who also had a pretty good season, but I am happy with our Devin even more so. According to Scott Smith of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, White is the first Buccaneer to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month awards in consecutive months or even twice in the same season.
In addition, Scott Smith notes that “White is the first player to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month award in consecutive months since Houston’s Brian Cushing in the last two months of the 2009 season, and White’s three fumble recoveries led all NFL players, not just rookies, over the past four weeks.” VERY IMPRESSIVE!
I love this kid’s attitude, and I believe he will become an all-time great Tampa Bay linebacker, but first, Defensive Rookie of the Year honors could be heading his way. That is if Bosa doesn’t win it.
