Jameis Winston says he will be fine after spraining his ankle late in Sunday’s loss to the Saints. Despite Winston noticeably limping, on Sunday, he never came out of the game. Winston threw for 313 yards, 2 TDs, and 4 INTs, while leading the team in rushing with 23 yards.
Although Winston said that he would be fine and ready to go for next week’s game in Atlanta, Arians has to be a bit worried about his quarterback situation. If Jameis Winson cannot be ready for next week’s game, then Arians will be forced to play QB Ryan Griffin, who has not seen any regular-season action during his six seasons in the NFL. With Blain Gabbert on IR and not likely to be anywhere near ready, the only other option is QB Chad Kanoff, who is on the practice squad. Kanoff is another QB who has not had any regular-season action since coming into the league a year ago.
What is Arians to do?
Do you take a chance furthering injury to Jameis Winston, who may still have lingering effects from the ankle sprain in next week’s divisional contest, or do you sit him as a precautionary method? If Arians goes with Winston and he is still suffering from a sprain, what does that say about the state of the team? This is why a solid backup QB is a must! Is Griffin that guy? Some sure think so.
