The Bucs are the only team giving up over 300 passing yards per game.
Things couldn’t any worse, and it’s time for the Vernon Hargreaves experiment to end.
Since the Bucs took Hargreaves in the first round of the 2016 draft, his play has been terrible. He’s no good in zone coverage and has proven he can’t play MAN either in Todd Bowles’s new defense.
In my opinion, it’s time to see what the rookies Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean can do. Dean is especially well suited for this defense. He’s a big corner at 6’1″ and 210 lbs and is an extremely gifted athlete with 4.3 speed to go with a 41 inch vertical. He’s also very aggressive and will harass WRs downfield. Murphy-Bunting is also a perfect fit in this scheme as he is a pure cover CB. He has struggled some this season but has had increased playing time the last two games and played well. The Bucs knew Sean Murphy-Bunting would be somewhat of a project coming out of small Central Michigan, so they have eased him into this defense slowly.
It’s time to bench and then move on from Hargreaves. Let’s give the two rookies their shot. It literally can’t get any worse.
