The Bucs are now 2-4, and it appears that they’re headed towards another losing season. Jameis Winston threw a career-high 5 INTs against Carolina, and most fans are calling for Winston’s head, but this team has a lot more problems than Winston.
Let’s start with the offensive line. Winston is on pace to be sacked more than any other QB ever, which would break David Carr’s record. Donovan Smith is mediocre at best, and Demar Dotson could retire at any time. With the injury to Cappa, broken arm, things will just get worse. We need depth and need it in a hurry.
Next, the defensive backfield. While the defense is very good against the run, they’re dead last against the pass. Vernon Hargreaves has proven he just can’t play in this league as he has given up more passing yards than any other CB. Carlton Davis is decent in coverage, but will never be a number 1 CB. At safety Jordan Whitehead has been the lone bright spot while Mike Edwards is battling injuries.
Make no mistake about it, the secondary is not “fixed”, as Bruce Arians claimed. It appears that after this season, the Bucs will be in rebuild mode, which is probably best for the team.
