Time to update the franchise record books

2 min read

First of all, let’s sing some Monday morning praises as Tampa Bay was victorious over the Rams 55-40. That’s right, a 15-point win over the defending NFC champs after being slated as 9.5-point underdogs. While they were winning, they were also setting franchise records.

Most points in a game

First of all, scoring in the NFL is tough these days. I mean just ask the Dolphins. But putting up 55 points on the Rams, that’s just insane. This set the franchise record for most points scored by the Bucs in franchise history (the previous record was 48 set last season in New Orleans. Bucs won 48-40). The sack, strip fumble by Shaq Barrett in the 4th quarter that led to Ndamukong Suh scoring on a fumble recovery in the 4th, sat the new franchise record. I guess a Suh-nami in the 4th quarter was needed.

Note: The Bucs previous high score with Winston under center was 45 points (Nov 2015 vs the Eagles in Philly)

Total points in a game

Not only did the Bucs set the franchise record for points scored, but also set a franchise record for combined points in a game with 95 (previously held by the 1980 blowout the Bucs suffered at the hands of the Jets 62-28 combining for 90 points).

Second on that list was the wild New Orleans game mentioned previously, that witnessed the Bucs and Saints combining for 88 points in a Bucs 48-40 victory.

Fire the cannons

This game was definitely a heart-attack turned celebration as the Bucs didn’t give up the lead after the half, even though the Rams did cut the lead down in the 2nd half. But, a win is a win so let’s take a moment to celebrate before taking on division rival New Orleans this coming Sunday in the 2nd of our 5 game-49-day road trip. #GOBUCS
