Many people have been wondering how William Gholston has managed to keep a roster spot ever since he was drafted in 2013. The 7th year pro out of Michigan State hasn’t really been one of the household names Bucs fans have been cheerful about, and at times it’s been understandable.
Since 2013, Gholston has recorded 242 total tackles (35 TFL), 11 Sacks, and 2 FF. In 2019 alone, he’s already recorded 7 tackles, 1 TFL. Those numbers may not instantly jump off the page at you, but he has been a huge asset in this new 3-4 defense under Todd Bowles. He is very agile during the run game, but he also demands double teams when necessary.
Many have questioned over the years, “why keep Gholston”? Well, it’s simple, matched alongside Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh, that’s a scary 3 man front. He could, and is possibly going to have a good year. Whether his stats jump out at you or not.
