BritBuc’s Hero’s and Villains!

2 min read

Welcome to the inaugural Hero’s and Villains article. A regular feature where I’ll pick over the bones of the most recent game, handing out doubloons or keelhauling certain players.

Firstly let’s establish the facts. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their week one fixture at home to the San Francisco 49ers, 31 to 17.

So without further ado let’s begin with the Hero’s of this performance.

Vernon Hargreaves III – VH3 scored the first Buccaneers points of the season with a superb pick 6. Justifying why so many here at Bucs Life News supported him this offseason.

Ronald Jones II – Rojo showed why coaches were so high on him before the season. Powering to 75 yards off 13 carries and showing he can be the feature back in Tampa.

Honourable mentions – These go to Mike Evans and Devin White. Both were clearly still suffering from illness, but kept giving everything.

So to the Villains. Don’t be mad I put them on this list; they put themselves on this list.

Demar Dotson – This is an obvious choice. Dotson was holding on nearly every play or being beaten like an old rug. Clearly out of his depth and resulted in 12 points being scrubbed off the scoreboard. Probably the worst performance of his career.

Jameis Winston – Another obvious choice. After being hit hard by Kwon Alexander, Winston was rattled and increasingly erratic. Two interceptions lead to 14 points for the visitors and Winston was also lucky his 3 fumbles weren’t turned over. A vast improvement is needed in his contract year.

OJ Howard – Blame Mrs. BritBuc for having Howard as her TE in fantasy football. Howard was anything, but the TE we have gotten to know in Tampa. Dropped passes and a lost fumble in the 49ers RedZone turned the tide away from the Buccaneers.

Dishonourable Mentions – so many could appear on this list, but I’m going with the entire offensive line. Yes, that does mean Dotson technically appears twice, but he really was that bad. The offensive line failed to pass block and didn’t provide Winston with much of a chance. Winston was clearly struggling and the help he needed was denied.

That’s it until Week 2.

Did I miss a hero? Do you think someone else could be dragged under the ship?
