On Saturday, the Bucs resigned UDFA Vinny Testaverde Jr.- The product of Jesuit H.S. and son of former 1987 1st overall draft of the Buccaneers Vinny Testaverde – after back-up QB Blaine Gabbert went down with a shoulder injury.

This marks the 3rd time the younger Testaverde will be on a Bucs practice field since May, though this time he will be seeing the field against another one of his father’s former teams the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.

When asked about his feelings in regards to playing Thursday, Vinny Jr said,

“I’m excited but nervous. Not worried about who it’s against I’m just ready for the challenge. My dad immediately called me., He said, ‘You watching the game?’ We just saw Blaine go down. Get ready for the call.’ I kind of had a feeling.” – per Rick Stroud Tampa Bay Times.

In the final preseason game that will have the starters sitting out, and Ryan Griffin playing limited, Testeverade will get a ton of playing time.

“He’s going to play a bunch, so get back in the playbook,” said Bruce Arians.

Arians was also asked whether or not if another quarterback would get the call and his response leaves it open for speculation that we may sign another QB ahead of Thursday’s game; that isn’t likely.

“Right now it’d be Griff and he won’t play much.”

It’ll be interesting to see what the young man can do and if it’ll be good enough to earn him a roster spot when the team cuts down from 90-to-53 players by 4 pm on Saturday, August 31st.

How will things play out? Stay tuned.
