With Todd Bowles implementing his 3-4 defense long time OLB Lavonte David will be moved to MLB and he will be paired with 1st round draft pick Devin White. The pairing of these two players at MLB could prove to be one of the best linebacker duos in the League.
We all know what David can do. He is great in coverage, aggressive against the run, and has proven to be devastating when asked to blitz. In 2013 he racked up 7 sacks and managed to get 3.5 last year in very few opportunities as former DC Mike Smith wasn’t very high on blitzing his linebackers as he preferred to drop them into coverage. His talent on the blitz is an asset in this defense because Bowles loves blitzing his MLBs through the A gap.
David won’t have to do it all himself with rookie MLB Devin White playing next to him. White has proven to be a very vocal leader and has been even better than advertised so far in camp. His 4.4 speed allows him to make plays from sideline to sideline and like David he has shown the ability to blitz from his MLB position.
I can’t think of a better MLB duo in the league. These two will definitely be a dynamic duo.
