Gerald McCoy Was Absent Day One
2 min read
Gerald McCoy was not in attendance for voluntary workouts on April first. Considering that they are voluntary it doesn’t seem to be a big deal if he was an average guy. However, the fact that there is so much mystique surrounding Gerald McCoy’s future with the team and rumors that he could be shopped closer to draft and during, adds more questions to his situation.
Many will read into this that he is in fact gone come April 25th and with Bruce Arians and Jason Licht being non-committal to McCoy while speaking at conferences and at other times, there’s no wonder people would believe this could be the case.
Gerald McCoy is due to make $13m this year, but none of it is guaranteed money, so the Bucs could part ways with him. Especially when you consider the fact that the Bucs are sitting at around $1.17m currently, Tampa really only has one decision to make in order to have over $10m available cap space to sign this year’s draft picks.
With Arians saying things like,
“It’s a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business. It’s hard. It’s cold. That’s it. What are you going to do for me now? We’ve got to find that out. He’s not as disruptive as he was four years ago, but he’s still pretty disruptive. He’s still a good player,”
further indicates that Arians nor the team has come to a decision about is future, yet.
