The Bucs Want To Keep Their Best Players.

2 min read

The remainder of the offseason is going to be an interesting one. For starters, GM Jason Licht has the lowest amount of cap space he’s had going into an offseason since he was hired. So this generates a problem that no one has a real clear, direct idea on how to answer. Who do you keep?

During his short press conference held in Indianapolis at the NFL combine, the obviously too aware of the predicament GM made some interesting remarks, but the biggest was stating they wanted to keep their best players.

His words on McCoy were cryptic but mostly reassuring.

“You know Gerald has a been a real productive-successful player for the Bucs. One of the Bucs all-time best defensive players. He is under contract, and ideally, we would love it if he continued to be a Buc.”

There hasn’t been much in either camp about an idea that McCoy is or isn’t returning as a Buccaneer. So there might be more to that.

When asked about DeSean Jackson his words were about the same:

“I’d say all options are on the table. Not to say, what I said about Gerald but DeSean has been a great player in this league for a long time. We like speed, and Bruce loves speed. He fits the bill there. He hasn’t lost a step last I looked. Ideally, we would like to see what we can do to keep all of our good players.”

So all options are apparently open right now, and the Bucs are only interested in keeping the “Best players.” Who that might be, seems to still be up for debate.
