Andrew Adams Scouting Report
2 min read
Last year, the Buccaneers secondary looked just plain ridiculous at times. The defensive backfield was letting opposing offensive to pick them apart with impunity. Then something happened, they decided to start S Andrew Adams due to injuries to several starting safeties. That very same game Andrew Adams picked off three INTs, putting him in the lead for INTs on the team. Then two games later Adams struck again, snagging one more pick before the season ended. His performance had Bucs fans wanting to see more, and next year they may get their chance.
So, who is Andrew Adams? What’s his story?
Adams went to UCONN and made a name for himself as a safety/DB hybrid. He started every game his final 2 seasons, and in 2014 he led the entire team in tackles with 103. Overall Adams had 262 tackles and forced 12 turnovers. Very good numbers for a DB. In 2015, he showed his leadership ability by becoming a team captain in 2015.
At 6’0 198 pounds, Adams definitely has the size to play either corner or safety. He’s incredibly strong for his size as well, putting up 24 reps of 225 at the combine.
Some of his weaknesses include his lack of athleticism, with only a 32″ vertical leap and a 9′ 10″ broad jump. Despite these limitations, he always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
Adams went undrafted and floated around the Giants roster for two seasons, Then in 2018 GM Jason Licht took a chance on Adams and brought him in for the 2018 season, due to injuries in the secondary. Adams played in bits of 13 games, but the final 4 games he got his chance to shine and did he even put up 23 tackles his last four games and also snagging those 4 INTs.
Adams had a breakout season last year. Let’s hope new HC Bruce Arians, and D Coordinator Todd Bowles decide to keep him around.
