Tough row to hoe!!
So far in 2024, it has been just what it was predicted to be for Dave Canales in Carolina, brutal! Only 3 wins so far this season in 13 weeks of football. Wins against the Raiders, Saints, and Giants, while they are welcome, they do not impress. This past week, they played the Chiefs down to the line, finally losing by just three. There are some signs that the team is making progress. Bryce Young has re-taken the starting gig again. You have to know that makes ownership happy. In the close 3-point loss to KC, Young was 23-35 for 263 yards and a touchdown for a career day. It was thought that after Canales had such good results with Baker Mayfield in Tampa, he could help the second-year QB in Carolina. It’s starting to show up in his play now, and this clash with his former team. One, Canales and team, almost pulled off in another 3-point loss, proves it. If the Panthers keep playing like this, wins will certainly begin to follow.
First meeting since parting ways
This was the first matchup between the two teams since Canales left Tampa to take the HC job in Carolina. It was expected that Carolina would be no match for the Buccaneers. Even so, the spread was Tampa by just 5 1/2 points, which they did not cover in a game they barely escaped from in overtime. The Bucs will have to face Canales and his Panthers once again, this time in Tampa. Let’s hope the team knows what they will take on this time and be better prepared.
Mayfield was outplayed in this one.
Baker Mayfield finished out the near loss, going 21 of 33 for 235 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Bryce Young went 26 of 46 for 298 yards and a touchdown through the air, adding a ten-yard run for a score as well. In the end, Mayfield did what he had to do to pull it out with almost no time in regulation, sending the game into overtime with a 51-yard Chase McLaughlin field goal with no time left on the clock. McLaughlin then kicked a 30-yarder in OT to seal the win. The Falcons are doing their best to help us fulfill our ambitions to win the division again. The Bucs need just to keep their heads down and play good football; good things should follow if they do. I’ve got my fingers crossed. Go Bucs!!
