Another overtime game and another loss

Again, the Bucs had this game, then let it slip away.

It seems that if we don’t blow our opponent out of the water starting early, we are bound to allow them to come back and beat us. The defense looked pretty good for most of the game, except for the fact they could not control the Chiefs’ run game. The Bucs were getting pressure on Mahomes and controlling the tempo early. Honestly, our Bucs were making the Chiefs look pretty ordinary through a good portion of the game. They certainly didn’t look like an undefeated team heading for another Super Bowl. As is usually the case, Pat Mahomes was just too good.

Injuries to Bucs’ receivers were pivotal, and 2 points.

For the Buccaneers, having a tight end lead the team in receiving, whose last name isn’t Gronkowski, is a sign of trouble. If Cade Otten is getting open so much, our injured starters could have run wild. There’s no doubt that if those guys were healthy, it could have been a different outcome. So the team now is below .500, and with every passing defeat, the season appears to be more and more; a lost cause. It’s truly a shame because this team early on looked to be in a great position to do some damage in the playoffs. How quickly things can turn around on you. What can make you laugh can turn into a crying situation in the bat of an eye. It’s the NFL (not for long), and it has a way of leaving contenders broken down on the side of the road. There is another issue at hand. Why, after tying the game up, didn’t Todd Bowles go for the two-point conversion and avoid overtime altogether if they were successful? Bowles’s reason for not going for two? The wet field conditions. That sounds like an excuse arrived at on the spot. It’s a ridiculous answer to a very good question.

Played with heart

The team should be commended for the way they played in K.C. Had the team had been at even close to full strength the team probably would have returned to Tampa with a W. Things don’t get any easier with the 49ers on tap this week. Christian McCaffrey should be back in the lineup for San Fran, so we have that to look forward to, Bucs’ fans. I will add this footnote if and when the playoffs are out of reach for the Bucs. Putting in Kyle Trask for a half or more in the remaining games would finally allow the team to know what they have in the young man. He looked like a different player in Camp 2023 and the pre-season. For me, it’s not a good thing to draft a player in any round and let him leave the team at the end of the contract and have no idea what the player could or could not have become for your franchise. It’s a waste of time, money, and the pick. Using the remaining games that mean nothing (when that occurs) makes good sense. That philosophy should go for all the young guys waiting for their chance.
