The Bucs Are Being Patient When It Comes To Kancey And His Return

Calijah Kancey vs Titans | Bucpower.com

Likely the best Bucs’ defensive tackle since Warren Sapp

Calijah Kancey got a late start because of an injury in 2023. Getting his first start in game #4, he went on to rack up 10 tackles for a loss, which tied for second among rookies with Texans’ Will Anderson Jr. Also, he had the fourth-highest stuff rate among defensive tackles (minimum 150 snaps) per Next Gen Stats. He posted 4.0 sacks and consistently produced big plays in critical moments. Kancey did something that no other Buc had ever done last season. He won NFL Rookie of the Month!

Salivating for him to get back in there

I must admit this latest injury, which is to his left knee, not the right, as was the case last season. I was excited at the thought of Kancey getting in there with Vea and the havoc they could bring to opposing offenses. You can bet One Buc isn’t going to rush the 2nd-year man out of Pittsburgh into action until he’s completely healed. I’ve tagged Kancey as being another “ace in the hole” once he returns to action. A player that can bring great presence in a successful season. If the Bucs win the division, he likely will be a nice piece of that puzzle. If you have the time, I’ve included a link to an article from buccaneers.com concerning his goals in year two. Go Bucs!!
