Washington: one of the ones we should dominate

Not your father’s Washington Football Team.

There was a long stretch of seasons where the football team, based out of Washington, was feared and respected. Their all-“Hog” offensive line has gone down in history as one for the ages. From 1983-1992, Washington went to 4 Super Bowls, winning 3. Since then, it has been slim pickings. Coach Dan Quinn, who had a stop in Gainesville as the Gators Defensive Coordinator (2011-12), left the Cowboys to become the Commander’s Head Coach. With a dynamic addition at quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft, Jayden Daniels, Washington believes it may have finally, after much long-suffering, found its franchise quarterback in the most recent Heisman winner.

Washington, in all probability, is still not there. Yet.

Barring the unlikely, the Commanders aren’t there just yet. There is no reason (including Daniels) to think they are going to start slinging wins around the place. Make no mistake about it: the Bucs should handle this team. After halftime, it should not be close. This Washington team has given the Bucs all they could handle and more at times. Yet, this is a team that good teams beat. The Bucs are a good team, no matter what the national media thinks. They should not be struggling against this Washington team today. Surely, Daniels should make it interesting. Bowles and his defense, at some point, should adapt to what the Commanders are trying to do and take over that side of the field. If they don’t, then Tampa may find the going rough. It would be a bad omen for what lies ahead. I expect our talent level to win out today. I think we all do. Tampa by 14-17, Go Bucs!!
