Week 1 is quickly approaching, and from starters to captains, the Bucs are putting the team together as they tackle the 2022 NFL Season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers players have put it to a vote and decided who will be their captains for this year. Five were announced, with the special teams’ captain to be announced; at a later time.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles was asked if the team had voted on captains and swiftly answered, “yes.” Bowles also went into how and why the team votes for their captains and what it means to those who were nominated.

“Yes, we did it. It will be Mike Evans, Tom Brady, Lavonte David, Devin White, and Vita Vea. We’ll hold one at a later date for special teams.

The players vote on it, so that’s a plus, and that’s a feather in those guys’ caps. To have the respect of the players is more important than anything else. When your peers vote on you being a captain, it means a lot for them.”

Of course, there were some obvious players voted as captain, like quarterback Tom Brady, wide receiver Mike Evans, linebacker Lavonte David, and linebacker Devin White donning the “C” for the second year in a row. But Vita Vea earning his first “C” is certainly something that needs to be highlighted.

“Vita got a lot of votes. He prepared very well. He had a good offseason; he came back in shape; he shed some weight. He’s been leading the film room charges, and he’s become a leader on this team. I think that speaks a lot about him.”

With the captains logged, the Buccaneers can focus on preparing for Week 1’s contest in Dallas and will set their sights on obtaining the Lombardi Trophy again.
