Calvin Magee is not known by many of the younger Buccaneers crowd, but for a lot of us seasoned folks, we remember him quite well. Magee was a tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1985-1988, spending his entire career with the team; he played 56 games, recording 114 catches for 1,379 yards and 11 touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was against the 1985 Chicago Bears. It was his first NFL catch and his first NFL touchdown.
Following Magee’s NFL career, he stayed around Tampa Bay for many years living and coaching at various schools. He began his coaching career at Tampa Catholic from 1990 to 1995, then moved on to USF, where he coached from 1996 to 2000. Coach Magee stayed coaching in NCAA throughout his coaching career. Coach Magee will be missed by all and was loved by everyone who knew him.
It brings us great sadness to report that Coach Calvin Magee has passed away from a severe heart attack. The world has lost one heck of a guy and a pillar of the community.
