Per Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be playing in Germany next season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face the Chiefs at FC Bayern Munich Stadium, which is being reported by the German website bild.de.
The Chiefs have reportedly pushed to play in Munich as the home team this Fall, but according to Ben Fisher, it will be the Buccaneers who will be the home team and forfeit a home game.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have yet to be notified by the NFL of this, but an official announcement is scheduled for Monday.
The Home Marketing Area initiative is a 5-year plan, allowing teams to pursue marketing strategies such as sponsorships, merchandise sales, events. The NFL has selected 18 teams to their teams across 8 countries. Tampa and Kansas City have picked Germany.
This is not the first time the NFL has played in Germany, having played in the American Bowl during the preseason from 1986 to 2005, which helped establish NFL Europe, which officially ended in 2007. However, this will be the first regular-season NFL game in Germany.
