Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent wide receiver Chris Godwin has been in this position before. Godwin wants to remain in Tampa. He loves the team, he loves the city, and he loves the fans, but he is not going to be underpaid for his talents.
According to Joe Bucs Fan, Godwin appeared on NFL Network’s Total Access and was told by host Nate Burleson that Mike Evans said earlier that they needed Chris Godwin badly.
“We need him bad, man, because he’s one of the best to do it in the game. Very versatile, tough, blue-collar guy, ultimate teammate, one of “my favorites” that I’ve ever played with,” Evans said. “So, I mean, I hope, I’m praying that we get him back. But he definitely deserves to be paid his worth, and that’s a lot.”
Godwin replied that he would love to stay in Tampa and play with Mike Evans and continue to be a one-two punch.
“Obviously, I love playing with my guy Mike,” Godwin said. “We’re a one-two punch, and we have been that way for a couple of years now. I would love to continue to do that.”
Veteran wide receiver Chris Godwin was recently a free agent, and the team could not agree on a long-term contract and opted to take the franchise tag instead. Godwin, who is at the door once again, is going to want the money that comes along with his talent. He has more than proven that he deserves the kind of capital that comes along with those skills.
Yes, the veteran receiver has suffered a serious injury, but he also has said that his rehab is doing well.
“I’m doing really good. I move around pretty good.”
With his rehab moving forward nicely, Godwin is definitely sitting on the better end of the negotiations table, and he will command a contract worthy of his skills. Whether that contract comes from the Buccaneers or another team, we will just have to wait and see what happens in March.
