According to Greg Auman of The Athletic, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed Buccaneers wide receiver and kick return man Jaydon Mickens from Tampa’s practice squad. The Jags recently lost their return man Jamal Agnew to a season-ending hip injury.
Mickens originally signed with the Jags in 2017 after spending the entire 2016 season on the Raiders practice squad as an undrafted free agent. He played in 16 games during two seasons as a Jaguar 2017-2018, returning 39 punts for 346 yards and 1 touchdown and returning 8 kicks for 169 yards. Mickens also caught 6 passes for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns while in Jacksonville.
During his 3 seasons with Tampa, Mickens returned 24 punts for 153 yards and returned 19 kicks for 469 yards. He wasn’t utilized much in Tampa’s passing game, only catching 7 of the 11 passes thrown his way for 58 yards.
The Bucs lose out on an extra return specialist while the Jags gain a familiar face. But with the return of Scotty Miller and the rise of Jaleon Darden, the Buccaneers should be in pretty good shape in the return department moving forward.
The Buccaneers have re-signed wide receiver John Hurst to their practice squad.
