The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed former Detroit Lions Tight End Darren Fells to the practice squad. Fells is an 8-year veteran of the NFL, playing for multiple teams over his career. The Buccaneers will be the veteran tight end’s 6th team he’s played with, starting in 2013, being signed by the Seattle Seahawks. He didn’t get his first taste of NFL regular-season action until 2014 with the Arizona Cardinals. (See the connection? Bruce Arians).
During his 8-year career, Fells played in 109 games, starting in 81, recording 127 receptions for 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns. A little-known fact is that Darren Fells was a professional basketball player who played in Argentina, Finland, Mexico, France, and Belgium for 4 seasons, before seeking an NFL career. Fells played basketball at the University of California, Irvine. He did not play football until being signed by the Seahawks. He’s the brother of former New England Patriots tight end Daniel Fells. (Look! Another Connection: Brady).
As Rap stated below, the Buccaneers hope to have him on the 53-man roster in time for this week’s game against Washington Football Team.
